Youth In Himachal Pradesh Gain Machine Learning Capabilities From IIT Mandi

March 5, 2024
machine learning

In order to equip the youth of Himachal Pradesh with critical machine learning capabilities, the Indian Institute of Technology Mandi (IIT Mandi) and the Himachal Pradesh Kaushal Vikas Nigam (HPKVN) successfully held their tenth skill development training programme.

Beginning on January 29, 2024, and ending on February 29, 2024, 54 eager young people from the Himachal region actively participated in the training programme. Participants in the programme were thrown into a thorough curriculum that was created to provide them real-world knowledge and expertise in Machine Learning—a cutting-edge field with a wide range of applications in many different industries.

As a subset of advanced artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) has become a key component of Industry 4.0, the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The robust IT and software services sector in India has led to a tremendous increase in demand for ML expertise.

The Delhi-NCR region, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, and other major IT hubs have turned into magnets for AI and ML career prospects. The pay scale for machine learning (ML) specialists in India varies significantly based on the employer, geography, experience, and skills. Starting salaries for entry-level jobs range from Rs 3-6 lakhs annually.

The event
Atul Karohta, the State Coordinator of HPKVN, Shivendu Chauhan, the District Coordinator of HPKVN, Professor Tushar Jain, the Head of the Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) at IIT Mandi, Professor Manoj Thakur, the Chairperson of the School of Management at IIT Mandi, and Professor Anjan Kumar Swain, the Programme Coordinator at IIT Mandi were among the distinguished dignitaries who graced the concluding event, held at IIT Mandi.

The occasion gained significance when Gandharva Rathore, IAS, the Managing Director of HPKVN, joined virtually. Her conversations with candidates provided a comprehensive understanding of the goals and accomplishments of students. Rathore underscored the importance of these courses and expressed assurance that they will assist Himachali youngsters in discovering professional paths that correspond with market demand.

She expressed her gratitude to the entire IIT crew for giving the youth of Himachal this priceless opportunity and made a suggestion that similar training programmes of this like might be introduced in the future for the same demographic.

Speaking at the event, Professor Tushar Jain, Head of IIT Mandi’s Centre for Continuing Education, thanked the participants for their dedication and passion during the training course.

“I appreciate the work HPKVN has done and their leadership in giving this chance to the youth of Himachal Pradesh,” he remarked. These intensive one-month courses on robotics, IOT, and machine learning provided by IIT Mandi were essential in helping these motivated young people improve their employability and financial prospects.

Professor Jain went on, “By combining advanced technical and soft-skills components, these courses will develop the participants’ futuristic skills, providing a holistic development of individuals and preparing them for Industry 4.0.” All of these courses are totally residential, allowing the youth of Himachal to benefit from IIT Mandi’s cutting-edge laboratories and advanced software. The youth of the state will gain from this significant partnership between IIT Mandi and HPKVN, and we will work together to further capitalise on it by introducing newer, more advanced short- and long-term courses, lasting one to six months and devoted to the goals of our Honourable Chief Minister and Technical Education Minister of Himachal Pradesh.

Next?

The accomplishment of the machine learning skill development training course validates IIT Mandi’s dedication to supporting innovation and skill development among the young of Himachal Pradesh. Building a trained workforce and promoting socioeconomic development in the region are two things that IIT Mandi continues to contribute to through cooperative efforts with HPKVN and other stakeholders.
