Will Artificial Intelligence ever match human intelligence?

May 25, 2023
Artificial intelligence

The very first question which comes to our mind whenever we talk about artificial intelligence is its comparison with human intelligence. Well, it’s valid that where we see artificial intelligence being accepted across the globe, at the same time there are numerous apprehensions linked to this new technology. The very first is the fear of artificial intelligence surpassing the intelligence of a human brain.

Let us discuss this further! Before jumping to conclusions in this battle, we first need to understand that artificial intelligence is the creation of humans. Although this technology has changed and transformed itself into a dynamic and promising technology, it will always require human intelligence to ensure its smooth functioning. We must take into consideration that this technology has successfully become a 100 billion dollar industry and is expected to grow even further by the end of 2030 to a massive valuation of 2 trillion dollars. These numbers can not be ignored! However, we must also note that although artificial intelligence has replaced human tasks, at the same time, it has generated almost double the jobs replaced.

Even though artificial intelligence has successfully advanced tasks including image recognition, natural language processing, and even gaming, still there is a long way to go in order to achieve creativity and intellectual understanding like human intelligence. We also need to understand that no matter how advanced AI tools become, replicating and understanding human emotions and consciousness will never be possible achieve by machines. The area of self-consciousness is an aspect that involves human cognitive understanding which is still not completely unfolded to date.

Considering the current scenario, it is not practically possible to create such AI-powered systems which can mimic human consciousness. We can agree to the fact that AI systems are capable of mimicking human intelligence but only to a very superficial level. This is where Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) comes into the picture. This is considered to be a topic with a wide spectrum, however, it can be understood easily as a meeting bridge where AI adapts to human-like generalized cognitive intelligence. Sadly, the current capabilities of the AI models are restricted and have not yet achieved AGI. The main hurdle is that the AI models provided as of now do not have the capability of including specific human traits which may include creative thinking and consciousness on an emotional level. Hence, advancements are expected in this direction in order to achieve a greater breakthrough.

One more aspect which we need to understand is the ethical implications connected to artificial intelligence surpassing human intelligence. Artificial intelligence surpassing human intelligence may raise the concern of privacy breach which has already started booming as well as the risk of cyber crimes which is surfacing in the industry at a rapid pace. Hence, this needs to be addressed in a curated manner in order to prevent a much bigger threat.

Well, whether or not artificial intelligence will surpass human intelligence, it is still not predictable. However, with the way artificial intelligence has surpassed its previous records, it is really commendable to witness the boom of artificial intelligence across the globe. This remarkable growth of artificial intelligence has truly reshaped the work of every industry making it more efficient, advanced, and productive which we can not deny! This development of AI models has showcased that the capability which artificial intelligence holds within really needs to be explored and utilized on a much greater scale. We need to accept the fact that the rapid advancements and research being conducted in this technology will truly be the face of the new world. But, the question of whether AI will be able to completely beat the human brain, is still a question we need to look upon.
