Tata Nexon EV Along With Tata Tigor EV Dominate Sales Of Electric Vehicle Market In India

March 15, 2022
Tata Nexon.

The sale of electric cars in India is on the rise and it is quite evident from the sales figures. In India, the Tata electric cars have proved to be the favorite among middle-class buyers. The Tata Nexon EV and Tigor EV occupy the majority of Electric vehicle sales in India. The other electric cars that are appealing for the middle class s Indian buyers include the MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona Electric, Mahindra eVerito, etc.

In February 2022, the EVs offered by Tata have dominated the electric car market. The Tata Nexon EV and Tata Tigor EV have accounted for sales of 2264 units. The sales of Tata EVs have increased by 66 percent in comparison to the sales of January 2022. Last month 1360 Tata EVs were sold in India. If the sales figure of Tata EVs were compared with Feb 2021, there has been a jump of 421 percent. In Feb 2021, only 434 EVs from Tata were sold. It should be taken into consideration that only Tata Nexon EV was offered by the company.

The second most EV sold in India is the MG ZS EV. The ZS EV sold just 38 units in February 2022. It is quite important to note that MG recently introduced the facelifted ZS EV. There was 36 per cent fall in sales as compared to January 2022. In January 2022 MG ZS EV sold 59 units. On the other hand, 127 units of ZS EV were sold in February 2021. A fall of 70 percent was registered.

The other electric cars that were sold in India were Hyundai Kona Electric, Mahindra eVerito, BYD e6. While Hyundai Kona Electric sold 7 units, Mahindra eVerito sold 12 units. On the other hand, BYD e6 sold just 10 units.

It can be easily observed that Tata EVs are leading the EV market in India. The reason behind the amazing sales of Tata Nexon EV and Tata Tigor EV is their value for money tag. The wide network of Tata Motors is another reason why the buyers in India like EVs manufactured by the company.

If were compare the EVs based on price Tata Tigor EV costs between Rs 11.99 lakh and Rs 13.14 lakh. Similarly, Tata Nexon EV costs between Rs 14.29 lakh and Rs 16.90 lakh. The Mahindra E Verito costs between Rs 9.12 lakh and Rs 9.46 lakh. The MG ZS EV costs between Rs 21.99 lakh and Rs 25.88 lakh. The Hyundai Kona Electric costs Rs 23.79 lakh. On the other hand, the BYD E6 costs Rs 29.15 lakh. It is important to note that the E Verito by Mahindra is the cheapest EV but lacks the style quotient. The range of the E Verito is just 120km while the top speed is below 100 kmph. Comparatively, the ARAI claimed mileage of Tigor EV and Nexon EV is above 300 km which makes them an ultimate choice of mid-class Indians. The Price of MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona Electric and BYD E6 is between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 30 lakh, which is too much for the average buyers of the country. Any EV below Rs 20 lakh with a decent range can be considered a choice for Indian buyers.

If we look into the luxury EV segment in India, we can find Audi e-tron, Jaguar i-Pace, Mercedez EQC, and Porshe Taycan.
