Launch Of ChatGPT Plugin Support By OpenAI

March 28, 2023
Chatbots

In November 2022, OpenAI developed and published ChatGPT (Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer), an artificial intelligence chatbot. It is based on the OpenAI large language model (LLM) families GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 and has undergone supervised and reinforcement learning for fine-tuning (a transfer learning technique). OpenAI’s ChatGPT now offers plugin support.

ChatGPT 3.5: Based on GPT-3.5, ChatGPT was first made available to customers in November 2022. On March 14, 2023, ChatGPT Plus subscribers had access to the most recent OpenAI model, GPT-4.

A model from the GPT-3.5 series that had finished training in early 2022 served as the basis for ChatGPT’s fine-tuning. The 3.5 series is covered in more detail in this section. On an Azure AI-hosted supercomputer infrastructure, ChatGPT and GPT-3.5 were taught. The versatility of ChatGPT-3.5 has generated a lot of curiosity. They include answering customer questions, translating, writing poetry and songs, developing computer code, and having conversations that seem human. The AI chatbot had innovative features, but it had minimal performance and accuracy difficulties. We shall examine each of them in detail.

ChatGPT Version 4: The most sophisticated system from OpenAI, GPT-4, produces responses that are not only more helpful but also safer. GPT-4 is also more creative and collaborative than ever before. For artistic and technical writing activities like writing songs and scripts, it can generate, revise, and iterate with users. It can also learn a user’s writing style. GPT-4 has more sophisticated thinking abilities than ChatGPT. The availability of ChatGPT plugin support was announced by OpenAI.

This improvement will enhance the language model’s capabilities, enabling it to use third-party services, due out computations, and access current information.

OpenAI plans to gradually roll out plugins while looking into their use, consequences, and potential drawbacks.

Expanding ChatGPT’s Functionality: Clients and designers alike have come to expect modules since they enable a wide range of ChatGPT use cases.

Language models are constrained by their reliance on their training data alone.

Plugins can serve as the “eyes and ears” of models, providing them with access to more recent, specific, or private data.

Furthermore, plugins enable the AI to execute constrained, secure activities on behalf of users. Two plugins offered by OpenAI are a web browser and a code interpreter.

Developers can add their information to ChatGPT by using the code that OpenAI is making publicly available for a knowledge base retrieval plugin.

Plugins for the Code Interpreter and Browse:

Thanks to the browser plugin for OpenAI, information from the internet is now part of ChatGPT’s knowledge base.

As a result, the AI chatbot can now provide information that is more precise and current.

Thanks to the code interpreter plugin for OpenAI, ChatGPT can manage uploads and downloads in a sandboxed environment and use Python.

In the early user studies, the code interpreter is helpful for resolving mathematical puzzles, evaluating data, displaying data, and converting file formats.

Plugin for Finding: The open-source retrieval plugin for OpenAI enables ChatGPT to retrieve private or corporate information sources like documents, emails, notes, and public documentation.

Developers that use the self-hosted solution can deploy and register it with ChatGPT. Using several vector databases and OpenAI embeddings, it indexes and searches documents.

Third-party Plugins: Plugin support allows ChatGPT to communicate with developer-defined APIs and connect to other apps. This improves ChatGPT’s capabilities, enabling it to carry out a variety of tasks.

Using plugins, ChatGPT is Capable of the Following:

Expedia, FiscalNote, Instacart, KAYAK, Klarna, Milo, OpenTable, Shopify, Slack, Talk, Wolfram, and Zapier are just a few of the firms that have released plugins in the first round. Also, they have access to knowledge-based data such as business records or private notes. They can also conduct tasks for consumers like ordering food or making travel arrangements.

Accessibility: A waitlist of users and developers now has access to the plugin alpha.

To gradually expand access, it will initially only be available to a small number of developers and ChatGPT Plus subscribers.
