India’s First Electric Cruiser Motorcycle Mazout: Claimed Range Of 350 Kms

We all know that electric vehicles are gaining popularity around the world. In India, things are not different either. There are several existing mainstream vehicle manufacturers who, have entered and launched many electric vehicles. When it comes to cars, we have Tata, MG and Hyundai. In two-wheeler segment, we are seeing more action. There are manufacturers like Ather, TVS, Okinawa and many new entrants like Hero, Ola in this segment. Several start-ups have also emerged in country and are working on electric vehicles. One such start-up is Mazout electric and they have developed an electric cruiser motorcycle which is aimed to offer 300-350 kms of riding range.

The video has been uploaded by Electric Vehicles on their YouTube channel. This electric cruiser motorcycle has been actually developed by a group of engineering students from Delhi Technical University. In this video, one of the member from the team explains the technical and hardware of the motorcycle. The motorcycle seen in the video is actually their second prototype and they are currently working on the software part of the motorcycle.

In this video, vlogger mentions that none of the manufacturers currently have an electric cruiser motorcycle in the market and that is the reason why they started working on this project. The group has named their start-up Mazout Electric and the name of the motorcycle is Mazout. They might change the name when it hits production.

The overall design of the motorcycle is inspired from a cruiser motorcycle. The team has worked extensively on figuring out a proper or relaxing riding position for the rider and pillion. The team is currently working on installing a 25kWh battery pack in the motorcycle which will offer a longer riding range. If they succeed in accommodating that battery pack into the motorcycle, then the motorcycle will return a range of 300-350 kms which is excellent.

The team is aiming this motorcycle at riders who like long distance riding. With such long range battery, one can easily enjoy a ride without worrying about the range. The motorcycle gets a hub mounted motor on the rear wheels. This has been done in order to generate more space in the bike for battery pack.

The video says that the hardware part of the motorcycle is almost ready and they are currently working on the software part. They are working on a system for the motorcycle that would plan trips, charging stops on its own whenever the rider feeds details. The motorcycle supports AC and DC fast charging. The batteries can be fully charged in 6 hours from zero and in order to charge the batteries 50 percent, it takes around 3 hours. The bike has a top-speed of 120 kmph which is quite good in comparison to many other products in the segment. In the video, the team member can be heard saying that as the motorcycle will be getting a long range custom made battery pack, the price is going to be slightly on the higher. They expect the pricing to be somewhere between Rs 3 lakh- Rs 3.5 lakh.
