In a major push for e-mobility, the Central government, in association with a private firm, is going to install 5,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging points in central Delhi.
These charging points will spread across 2,000 charging stations.
“The National Highways for Electric Vehicles (NHEV) in association with Joulepoint, is going to develop these charging points in the central Delhi area with an aim of not just promoting EVs as personal vehicles but also as taxis. The busiest area of the entire NCR will get such boost in EV in passenger transport which is unparalleled,” said Abhijeet Sinha, project director, NHEV.
The Joulepoint will be installing these charging points not only for cars, but for two and three-wheeler taxis also.
“We will be installing AC and DC both types of chargers at the stations. The two and three-wheeler EVs need less than 10 KW of current, which can be supplied sufficiently through A.C chargers. However, the four-wheeler EVs require 15-100 KW of current to recharge, hence DC chargers will also be installed,” said Ranjan Kumar Dodda, chief marketing officer, Joulepoint.
In the meantime, the NHEV is going to hold the second trial run for proposed world’s longest e-highway at Delhi – Jaipur Expressway. Earlier in December 2020, the first phase of trials was completed at Delhi- Agra Yamuna Expressway. The project — Atal Harit Vidyut Rashtriya Mahamarg (AHVRM) Yojana– has been named after former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
