AI Will Assist With The Ecourts Project’s Translation Of Judicial Papers Into Regional Languages

December 23, 2022
Artificial-Intelligence

The Supreme Court’s e-committee has approved using blockchain and artificial intelligence technology into Phase III of the Ecourts Project.

The Supreme Court Vidhik Anuvaad Software, dubbed SUVAS (Supreme Court Vidhik Anuvaad), was created by the Artificial Intelligence Committee and the Ministry of Law and Justice to translate legal papers from English into vernacular languages and vice versa.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a technique that enables computers to mimic human thought processes. AI allows for the programming of computers to perform jobs like pattern recognition, huge data analysis, self-algorithms, and other similar tasks.

In addition to helping with legal research on the judicial side and translating judicial papers, the Supreme Court committee has considered using AI to follow cases, particularly ancient ones. Cases involving senior individuals, women, and underrepresented groups present significant challenges. Utilizing AI can aid in effective case tracking, case flow management, and policy decision-making.

The committee has also indicated that, given the geography, topography, and complexity of customary laws, local special laws, and the sheer volume of cases, it is necessary to investigate the advantages that machine learning and artificial intelligence can bring to the administration of justice.

Over 4.86 crore cases are pending at the high courts and district courts in India, according to the National Judicial Data Grid.
