Bhubaneswar:  A two-day national workshop has been organized virtually by the Faculty of Health and Wellness, Sri Sri University on ‘Yoga Therapy for Health and Wellness’ from December 16 -17, 2021 to equip the participants with a comprehensive ability on different dimensions of yoga, with the objective of inducting quality and standards to the practice of yoga. More than 650 participants have attended and benefited from the national workshop where two eminent speakers have given their wisdom regarding the relevance of yoga therapy with a special reference to the classical textbooks on Yoga.

The first day began with Dr. Kausthub Desikachar, Chief Executive Officer, Viniyoga Pvt. Ltd. who discussed the authentic teaching of yoga to the modern era as well as building bridges between different healing modalities to promote physical, emotional, spiritual, and social health. To him, it is very important to identify the causes of disease and establish specific yogic tools for healing. He is the successor and current lineage holder of the classical Viniyoga tradition of T. Krishnamacharya & T.K.V. Desikachar.

On the second day, Yogacharya Dr. Anand Balyogi Bhavanani, Director,  Centre for Yoga Therapy Education and Research (CYTER) and Professor of Yoga Therapy at Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, Pondicherry has emphasized the two aspects of Arogya and Swasthya with a special reference to Salutogenesis, which is the origin of health and focuses on factors that support human health and well-being, rather than on factors that cause diseases. The positive approach gives good physical and mental health and quality of life. In this regard, he told that the yogic lifestyle empowers and enables individuals to modify the perceptions of their stressors, optimize their responses to them and efficiently release stress. Apart from this, he has also mentioned that relaxation is the key to healing with adequate achara, vichara, ahara, vihara, and vyavahara. He has been advised to build up a complete personality and perform welfare activities for social wellbeing.

Prof B R Sharma, Executive Registrar, Head and Dean, Faculty of Health and Wellness has guided to conduct the workshop. All the faculty and students of Health and Wellness really worked hard to make the event a grand success.
