The eighth cohort of Surge, a rapid scale-up program for early-stage firms run by Sequoia India & Southeast Asia, has begun. It includes 30 visionary entrepreneurs from twelve different companies.
According to a release from Surge, Surge 08 features entrepreneurs developing cutting-edge solutions in the fields of climate technology, artificial intelligence (AI), the metaverse, digital health, new consumer brands, and innovative e-commerce methods.
Eight cohorts, 300+ founders, and 130+ firms from 16+ industries are now part of Surge’s carefully vetted startup ecosystem.
Half the Surge 08 startups, it says, have at least one female founder, including two Indonesian doctors who are using technology to democratize access to healthcare and wellness services and a Ph.D. candidate in AI and natural language processing who is interested in using AI in healthcare.
Additionally, two climate-tech firms, a metaverse gaming platform for GenZ, an AI company that has worked with NASA, two health tech firms using AI to enhance insurance and medical imaging, two health tech firms, as well as three exciting consumer firms creating new-age brands in the home decor, food, and wedding industries are all part of Surge 08.
“The creators of Surge 08 are developing cutting-edge enterprises and products that could revolutionize their industries over the next ten years,
According to Rajan Anandan, Managing Director of Sequoia India & Southeast Asia and Surge, “These diverse groups of founders each bring with them unique experiences and expertise to create ambitious and differentiated products and platforms to the problems they are tackling.” We are excited to be a part of their early company-building journeys.
According to the statement, half of the firms in Surge 08 are seeking to expand into the United States, Europe, and Canada. Many founders are planning for global markets from day one.
The creators of Surge 08 are now enrolled in a 16-week hybrid program with a business development focus.
William Tanuwijaya (Tokopedia/GoTo), Siu Rui Quek (Carousell), Chatri Sityodtong (ONE Championship), and Doug Leone are some of the previous lecturers and mentors in the program (Sequoia Capital).
