The GPAI Summit 2023 Will Feature Youth For Unnati And Vikas With AI (YUVAi)

December 15, 2023
GPAI

The National e-Governance Division (NeGD), Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, and Intel India are collaborating on YUVAi—Youth for Unnati and Vikas with AI—which is set to take center stage at the upcoming Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Summit. This ground-breaking initiative, which aims to teach young people the fundamentals of artificial intelligence, is becoming known for its creative methodology and dedication to creating a workforce prepared for the future.

Giving Youth AI Skills to Empower Them
YUVAi is a revolutionary program designed to help students in grades 8 through 12 across the country gain a deeper grasp of artificial intelligence. The main objective of the curriculum is to give these students the fundamental AI abilities they need to become human-centered AI creators and users. As a lighthouse, YUVAi directs the future generation toward the responsible and significant application of AI to tackle societal issues.

Important YUVAi Program Updates and Features

Progressive Phases
To maximize student participation, YUVAi is launched in three distinct phases across multiple cohorts. The curriculum exposes students to a range of social subjects and directs their AI expertise toward resolving practical issues.

Cohort 1 Achievement
YUVAi saw record-breaking enrollment in its first cohort, with over 8,500 students signing up. Basic AI topics were covered in online orientation seminars for both teachers and students. Students then submitted creative AI-based concepts categorized into the eight main program themes. These are the following:

Farming (Krishi)

Medical (Aarogya)

Learning (Shiksha)

Clean Energy & Environment (Paryavaran)

Vehicles (Parivahan)

Grameen Vikas’s Rural Development Program

Intelligent Urban Areas

Justice and Law (Vidhi aur Nyaay)

Shortlisting and Assessing Ideas
There were more than 750 student entries for Phase 1. The top 200 AI-based concepts were shortlisted for Phase 2. To improve their ideas, the chosen students participated in online deep dive AI training and mentorship sessions with qualified Intel AI coaches and experts. Afterwards, these students sent in their polished AI projects for assessment in Phase 3.

In-person Workshop for Rapid Modeling
The top 50 students took part in a four-day in-person rapid modeling session during Phase 3. Through one-on-one mentoring, apprenticeship, and advice from industry professionals, participants in this immersion program were able to refine their ideas into working prototypes. A diverse jury panel performed an on-the-spot project presentation to choose the top 10 students.

At the GPAI Summit, YUVAi
The GPAI Summit will witness a major impact from YUVAi as its top 10 finalists present their AI-driven social impact initiatives. YUVAi hopes to encourage industry executives, educators, and legislators to work together to create a future where artificial intelligence (AI) is a force for good rather than just a tool when the worldwide event takes place. A significant step has been taken in the direction of producing a new generation of accountable and creative AI leaders with YUVAi’s presence at the GPAI Summit.
