Qualcomm And MeitY’s C-DAC Announce A Partnership For The Digital India FutureLABS Program, Extending Their Assistance For Indian Entrepreneurs In Semiconductor Design

February 7, 2024
MeitY

The Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), an independent scientific society under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and Qualcomm India Private Limited, a member of the Qualcomm group of companies (NASDAQ: QCOM), collectively known as “Qualcomm,” plan to work together to advance the country’s semiconductor design ecosystem. In order to promote Design in India and Made in India, Qualcomm will provide C-DAC with knowledge and best practices on cutting edge technology, intellectual property, tools, and talent development. Encouraging the development of domestic SoCs for high-volume goods like Wi-Fi routers and surveillance IP cameras is a shared goal.

With MeitY as a mentor, C-DAC hopes to make the Digital India futureLABS possible. In the identified technology verticals of automotive, computing, communications, strategic electronics, and industrial electronics/Internet of things, the goal is to strengthen the homegrown R&D ecosystem through the establishment of a cooperative R&I ecosystem and the effective cooperation of Indian industry, multinational corporations, startups, and academia.

FutureLABS’s primary goals are to

Establish the IECT Research & Innovation (R&I) framework so that India may take the lead in Electronics System Design Standards, Intellectual Property, Systems, and Platforms.
Through cooperative efforts, strengthen the domestic research and innovation ecosystem in designated sectors, resulting in technical advancement and sustainable growth.
C-DAC and Qualcomm will collaborate to achieve the following overarching goals:

Encourage the technological breakthroughs, IP-driven creativity, and product development needed for semiconductor design in the Indian ecosystem.
Assist in lowering innovation risks, quickening company development, and expanding the soft skills and knowledge base of Indian companies working on semiconductor design.
Make it easier for the chosen entrepreneurs to connect with individuals and groups tackling related societal issues or shared fields.
Make it easier for the chosen entrepreneurs to connect with VCs, industry associations, VCs, accelerators, incubators, and big businesses that could assist them in growing their businesses.
Establish forums and platforms that offer chances to collaborate with startups and high-growth companies that have innovative ideas that have the potential to revolutionize the semiconductor supply chain in the future.

Furthermore, through the Qualcomm Semiconductor Mentorship Program, Qualcomm and C-DAC plan to extend their partnership in order to assist Indian semiconductor design companies and promote innovation in the semiconductor industry. Qualcomm leaders match each shortlisted firm with a mentor to provide guidance on product planning, development, and masterclasses on generating intellectual property rights and scaling up. Four businesses have already benefited from this partnership’s assistance in their development as part of the Qualcomm Semiconductor Mentorship Program 2022–2023.
