OSM Partners With Agri Junction To Deploy 10,000 Electric Vehicles In Rural India

In a bid to deploy more than 10,000 electric two and three-wheeler vehicles in rural markets by FY’ 22-23, Omega Seiki Mobility (OSM), an Anglian Omega Group company, Friday announced an agreement with Agri Junction, a leading digital marketplace for agri products in India. Agri Junction and OSM will launch electric vehicles in the tier-II and III markets of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, which account for the majority of electric vehicle sales in India, in the first phase. OSM will be deploying current cars like the electric passenger car and the cargo electric vehicle series, including Rage+, Rage+ Rapid, Rage+ Rapid Pro, Rage+ Frost, and Rage+ Swap. A specialised new product line-up includes tractors and drones for rural markets, as well as electric two-wheelers like the Mopedo and Stream City.

Agri Junction will assist Omega Seiki Mobility with the deployment of vehicles, the listing of OSM electric vehicles on its online marketplace website, provision of credit through the PM Mudra Yojana, partnerships with dealers, the establishment of EV infrastructure, promotion of EVs among farmers, small businesses, and the general public in the rural markets. Omega Seiki Mobility, on the other hand, will offer electric cars, set up a charging network under the company’s brand OSM E-link, and create a unique R&D team for creating new offerings specifically for India’s rural markets.

With nearly two-thirds of the country’s population, Rural India offers a huge customer base for electric vehicles. The market is primarily agrarian in character, with small businesses and roadside kiosks. Pick-up trucks and tractors account for a sizeable portion of rural India’s transportation needs. Since many of these vehicles are older, their fuel-use efficiency may be lower. Electric cars are, in that sense, the ideal option for these markets. Additionally, it is predicted that in India, the last-mile logistics segment of the e-commerce industry will grow by 9 times to USD 5.23 billion in 2025. Today, Tier II and III cities account for one out of every five users of e-commerce platforms. Three-wheeler goods vehicles are quickly emerging as the go-to option for last-mile delivery for small loads. As a result of this rising need, OSM is collaborating with Agri Junction to advance clean energy beyond metro and Tier I cities.

Highlighting the collaboration, Uday Narang, Founder and Chairman, Omega Seiki Mobility said, “Omega Seiki Mobility is an electric OEM (original equipment manufacturer) that was founded with the purpose of empowering electric mobility in India. Smaller towns and rural India are joining the EV user group. By 2023, OSM will provide new concepts of tractor as a service (TaaS) and will be leasing for the Tier II and III markets after exhaustively testing its electric tractors at its R&D facilities in Korea and Thailand. With a low operational cost and zero emissions, EVs are emerging as a better option for personal and business use in rural areas.”

“Together with Agri Junction, Omega Seiki Mobility will construct infrastructure in the rural markets. Agri Junction has a wealth of experience doing business in rural areas, and we are utilising this expertise to produce customised electric vehicles. We’ll make sure that EV adoption gets increased in these markets.,” Narang added.

Speaking on the objectives of the partnership, Raj Yadav, Founder and CEO, Agri Junction said, “At Agri Junction, we are dedicated to assisting citizens in making our country GO GREEN! We constantly strive to come up with fresh suggestions for how to boost farmers’ output. We strive to create hygienic, ecologically friendly solutions that are supported by professionals and provide consistent outcomes. We encourage tens of thousands of people to adopt sustainability into their daily lives because we are confident in our capacity to successfully cultivate plants.”

The product lineup and manufacturing footprint of Omega Seiki Mobility have been expanding quickly in India. The business is the first OEM with a product line that includes 2, 3, and 4-wheelers. The business has established sizeable production facilities in Pune, Delhi-NCR, and is also trying to grow in Chennai. The business operates as a top last-mile service provider under the name ‘UNOXpress’. The company currently operates its fleet in 25 cities, clocking more than 10 lakh kilometres per month.
