On Monday, Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar revealed the astounding rise in India’s startup innovation scene during the previous two to three years. The country is ready for the next wave of innovation, according to Chandrasekhar, especially in fields like high-performance computers, semiconductors, microelectronics, and artificial intelligence (AI).

During the official introduction of the ‘Investor Information and Analytics Platform,’ which was developed by IIT Madras, the minister emphasized the platform’s ability to help close the knowledge gap about the innovation ecosystem. Chandrasekhar emphasized the importance of the platform’s artificial intelligence (AI) conversational interface, called “StartupGPT,” which attempts to make it simple for all stakeholders traversing the startup ecosystem to obtain comprehensive data.

Researchers will find this platform to be a useful tool in understanding the processes of growth within the ecosystem. It will also help public policymakers create initiatives and actions that are in line with these dynamics “said Chandrasekhar.

A joint venture between IIT Madras and the Centre for Research on Start-ups and Risk Financing (CREST), the ‘Investor Information and Analytics Platform’ provides an extensive database of data that is essential for startups. The website seeks to facilitate entrepreneurs’ access to resources and finance by compiling data on over 200,000 firms, over 11,000 angel investors, 5,000 venture capitalists, 1,000 incubators, and more than 100 government bodies that promote startups.

Head of CREST at IIT Madras, Professor Thillai Rajan A, emphasized the platform’s contribution to India’s transition to an innovation-driven economy. “Platforms like these will democratise access to information and capital, thereby accelerating the commercialisation of innovation,” said Professor Rajan. He went on to emphasize how connecting young entrepreneurs with mentors, investors, and specialists who are specifically suited to their projects may be facilitated by the platform.
