India’s First AI-Driven Advanced Autonomous Anti-Drone System Is Unveiled By Grene Robotics

September 8, 2023
Artificial-Intelligence

An innovative autonomous anti-drone system named Indrajaal has been unveiled by Grene Robotics, a robotics startup based in Hyderabad, and is driven by artificial intelligence (AI). “We will never forget the June 15, 2021 strike on Galwan and the June 27, 2021 drone attack on the airport in Jammu. We questioned at the time what defense we had against drones and swarms. Indrajaal has today provided the solution and demonstrated that it is feasible.

According to marketing materials, Indrajaal is the first wide-area Counter-Unmanned Aircraft System (C-UAS) in the world and can defend huge regions, including entire cities, from different kinds of drones. It offers thorough protection against moving threats, which static defense systems are unable to adequately counter. Wing Commander Sai Mallela, co-founder of Grene Robotics, claimed, “From low radar cross section (RCS) threats to medium and high-altitude long endurance (MALE and HALE) UAVs, loitering munitions, smart bombs, rocket showers, nano and micro drones, swarm drones, and more, we have it all covered. He had previously worked on creating the Indian Air Force’s Integrated Air Command and Control System to transition to network-based operations. He had also helped plan a multi-million dollar import substitution for the forces.

The technology provides 360-degree safety by being able to recognize, categorize, track, and neutralize drone threats in real time. Over a 4,000 square km region, it is intended to defend against all classes and types of autonomous drones. Indrajaal is anticipated to have applications in the defense, public infrastructure protection, and private sectors. It is thought to be a critical answer for countering the growing threat of hostile UAV activity in India.

According to Mr. Raju, there will be a lot more drone activity shortly, and 95% of them will be allies rather than enemies. Indrajaal is capable of telling friendly drones from bad ones. According to Mr. Raju, the system would cost around 5 crore if I were to create the Telangana secretariat for between 200 and 300 crore. This is a typical major infrastructure expense for building protection. For instance, level 4 data centers require drone protection as a component of their capital infrastructure in addition to having fire protection.

Wing Commander Sai Mallela notes that because standalone solutions are not scalable or useful, present deployments have limitations. At low radar cross sections (RCS) and close to the ground, only radar-based detections are unreliable. They can’t even recognize the radio frequency that is in use. The system’s price is equivalent to those of other critical asset protection capital structures. The creators of Grene Robotics think that Indrajaal will be crucial in preserving national security as drone activity continues to increase. The technology is a useful tool for controlling the growing number of drones in the skies since it can distinguish between friendly and threatening drones.
