How Is IoT Related To AI

February 15, 2022
IoT

Understanding the technologies

If you consider AI and IoT, they are two different technologies. However, they are closely related and their amalgamation can do wonders. If we compare IoT devices as the body then AI is the brain of it. To understand this merger, we need to have a complete vision of both technologies. The devices that are connected to the interest, can accumulate and process data forms the Internet of Things. On the other hand, AI is a technology that enables a system to work on the accumulated data intelligently, thus creating “smart” devices.

AI meets IoT- some practical examples

Combining AI innovations with IoT- enabled gadgets to have improved configurations and create fantastic things like voice enabled smart homes devices for example Google Home, Alexa, Siri, Amazon Echo. Apart from these, this killer combination has multiple uses.

Smart Retail Service

A smart camera installed in huge retails stores capture the image of the customers and tracks out information from various connected mediums including his/her social footprints. They process this data and try to stuff the store with items  that these customers would love to have, eventually skyrocketing the sale. The checkout process can be curtailed as well, with the amount getting deducted from their digital wallets. The Amazon Go store is currently following this to some extent.

Smart Traffic Monitoring

The IoT and AI can do wonders in smart cities by managing the traffic through drones. The Drones can monitor the traffic of a large area and can collect data, which can be analysed with the help of AI and changed as per requirement. For example, in  congested areas the timing of the traffic lights can be changed and the speed limit of the cars can be adjusted to ease out the congestion faster. A perfect example of Smart Traffic Monitoring gadget is the ET City Brain, designed by the Alibaba Cloud. This helps in detecting accidents, illegal or wrong parkings, optimise the  timing of the traffic lights and also makes way for the ambulance to reach the patient faster.

Smart Office Buildings

Smart office buildings are a concept which is in process of being implemented. The facial recognition access, fingerprint access is a part of it. The automated temperature adjustment, lighting adjustment keeping in mind the energy efficiency alongside with the requirements of the people present inside the office building, are all brilliant examples of the conjugation of AI with IoT.

Future of IoT in AI

Despite making rapid progress on leaps and bounds both IoT and AI must be visualised as early innovations. It can be concluded that the future of AI and IoT has quite a shine. As new innovative applications emerge in which IoT interacts with AI, the future developments demonstrate how IoT may establish ties with the  new industrial sectors and open doors, break traditional plans of action, and significantly alter the current scenario. As a result, firms wishing to capitalise on opportunities to significantly impact profits, health, adaptability, and consumer experience are generally well-versed with these new ground-breaking advancements.
