Bajaj Auto To Set Up New Electric Vehicle Plant; Plans To Invest Rs. 300 Crore

The new unit of Bajaj Auto is spread over an area of half a million square feet and will produce 500,000 EVs a year.

Rajiv Bajaj, managing director of Bajaj Auto has said that Bajaj 2.0 soared with Pulsar bike, whereas, in 2021, Bajaj 3.0 again took off with the Chetak.

As per Bajaj, “Going forward, for the Bajaj portfolio, except for implementing one state-of-the-art ICE platform that is currently under development, all our R&D resources are now laser focused on creating EV solutions for the future. This alignment reflects our belief that light EVs for sustainable urban mobility is an idea whose time may finally have come.”

New EV Plant Promises Employment For 800 People

As per the company, the Akurdi plant in Pune will employ nearly 800 people and the investment will be supplemented by several vendors who will be investing an additional amount of Rs. 250 crore.

Recently, we reported that Xiaomi will soon be building a plant with a capacity to produce 300,000 vehicles per year in Beijing.

The company had joined the EV race back in March. It completed the business registration of its EV unit- Xiaomi EV Inc- and was opened with a registered capital of $10 billion. The unit has employed 300 people and recruitment is still ongoing.

There also have been reports about Tata Motors Ltd. developing a new electric vehicles division, and for that, the largest vehicle maker of India is reportedly raising as much as 1 billion USD. As per sources close to the development, the business has been valued at around 7 billion USD.
