Artificial Intelligence Can Help With Supply Chain Management In A Number Of Ways

June 19, 2023
Artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence is a type of technology that lets robots do things that humans would normally have to do. It includes making computers that can learn from data and algorithms and make decisions based on what they have learned. It is an important part of your life. Your Google Voice helper is a simple example.

AI works by putting large amounts of data through algorithms and models. It uses the patterns it finds in the data to make choices or do tasks. AI systems can get better over time if they use methods called “machine learning.”

AI’s Growth

In 2022, the value of the world AI market was $120 billion, up from $87 billion in 2021. Experts say that by 2030, the market will have grown and be worth more than $1.5 trillion. This means that every year it will grow by more than 20%. AI’s rapid rise can be attributed to a number of things, such as:

1. Big Data
In recent years, the amount of digital data has grown a lot. This has led to the term “big data,” which refers to the huge amount of information that people and machines both create.

AI programmes have been made to analyse and make sense of this huge amount of data, which can help you figure out what it all means.

When big data is used to train machine learning algorithms, AI systems can find correlations and patterns that people might not be able to see.

2. Changes in how computers work
Over the years, computing power has improved a lot, making it possible to handle and analyse large amounts of data in real time.

With more computing power, it is now possible to build and teach AI models that are more complex and sophisticated than ever before.

3. Use of the cloud
The way businesses get and use AI tools and technologies has changed a lot because of cloud computing. Providers of cloud computing offer AI tools like:

Machine learning models
Image Recognition and Natural Language Processing

4. Automation
Automation has become a buzzword in the modern business world, where companies want to boost productivity and simplify their processes. But as jobs get more complicated, the old ways of automating them aren’t working anymore.

AI can help with supply chain management in many ways.
AI is being used in more and more businesses in some way or another because it has so many benefits. In fact, by 2025, around 96% of supply chain and manufacturing companies are likely to use AI.

Using AI in supply chain management has a number of benefits that help improve operations and give it a strategic edge. Here are some key benefits:

1. Keeping track of inventory correctly
Any business that wants to meet customer needs while keeping costs low needs to have accurate inventory management. With tools that use AI, businesses can:

Collect data in real time about how much stock they have and use this knowledge to improve their supply chain processes.
Analyse trends in demand, make predictions about future demand, and change inventory levels so you don’t overstock or understock.
AI can also take care of restocking by setting triggers that tell inventory managers when certain levels of stock are met. This makes sure that stock is restocked quickly, stopping stockouts and the loss of sales that could have been made.

AI-powered inventory management’s accuracy and speed can help businesses cut costs, improve order fulfilment rates, and, in the end, make customers happier.

2. Automating the warehouse
Warehouse automation using AI technology can speed up and improve the accuracy of the following warehouse tasks:

AI-powered robots can be used to pick and pack products, so people don’t have to do the same chores over and over again.
AI can also improve the flow of goods in a warehouse and make it easier to find things by optimising the layout.
This automation makes it so that people don’t have to do routine or repetitive jobs by hand. This cuts down on labour costs and improves efficiency.

3. Made it safer
For your supply chain to work, it’s most important that your workers and the goods you handle are safe. AI can help you in many ways by analysing data from different sources, such as devices and cameras.

to be careful about preventing accidents and making sure the workplace is safe.
to find possible dangers and warn workers or take corrective actions to stop accidents from happening before they do.
This keeps your workers and goods safe and cuts down on downtime and the costs that come with it.

4. Chatbots can help you provide better customer service
AI-powered robots are changing how companies talk to their customers in many ways, such as:

They can help customers quickly and easily solve their questions and problems without having to talk to a person because they offer support around the clock.
They can handle a lot of requests at once, which cuts down on wait times and makes customers happier.
Customers can get personalised suggestions and offers based on what they have bought and what they like.
This can improve the customer experience as a whole.

5. Always on time
In supply chain management, on-time delivery is a great way to build trust and brand loyalty, but it can be hard to do because of things like changing demand, transportation, operations, etc. AI, on the other hand, lets you:

Increase the number of deliveries that arrive on time by optimising transportation routes based on real-time data, predicting delivery times correctly, and keeping an eye on the progress of shipments at every step.
Send proactive updates to customers about the state of shipments and estimated delivery times. This will make the supply chain process more transparent and build trust.
Also, supply chain managers can use AI-powered predictive analytics and advanced monitoring tools to spot possible problems in the supply chain and make the changes that are needed to make sure deliveries happen on time.

This makes customers happier and cuts down on costs related to late deliveries and keeping track of goods.
