The Alan Turing Institute has launched a new AI Standards Hub with the aim of building a vibrant and diverse community around AI standards. It also proposes a set of guidelines to be held in the future.
Run in partnership with the government’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), the British Standards Institution (BSI) and the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), the Hub is dedicated to knowledge sharing, capacity building, and world-leading research. It aims to build a vibrant and diverse community around AI standards.
Those with limited experience in standardization will be able to benefit from the Hub’s “Standards at a glance”. It will help them become familiar with the nature of standards and the concepts and processes undermining their development and use.
According to the institute, the four pillars of the AI Standards Hub are Observatory, Community and Collaboration, Knowledge and Training, and Research and analysis. The institute plans to focus on the thematic area of Trustworthy AI in the initial days.
The AI Standards Hub launch event featured an introduction to the Hub’s program of work on Trustworthy AI and a multi-stakeholder panel discussion examining priorities, challenges and opportunities in this context.
According to Damian Collins, parliamentary under-secretary of state for tech and the digital economy. AI is not an industry or a single product. It is an enabler that drives every aspect of modern life. In his opinion, the Hub will work to improve AI standards adoptions and contribute to their development internationally, bringing an additional layer of confidence to those using and engaging with technology.
