Skills Required Of India’s Kids In 2024 In A Tech-Driven World

January 29, 2024

The youth of India hold the primary responsibility for leading the country towards its ambitious objective of becoming a $5 trillion economy, as the country marches boldly in that direction. The Indian talent landscape is changing at a rate never seen before, with a median age of 28 years old.

The Future of Pay Report 2023 by EY, which was published in March 2023, outlined the major talent trends for 2023. These trends included a growing talent pool, a shortage of skilled workers, increased competition for top talent, a focus on upskilling and reskilling in critical industries for job growth, and the dynamics of retention and attrition rates.

The research states that India has one of the world’s largest populations of working-age people, which has increased the country’s talent pool. The high employability rating—roughly 55 percent—among engineering and technology undergraduates is particularly notable. Graduates with a degree in computer applications, on the other hand, have a 29 percent employability rate.

Uncertainties in the economy, contentious discussions over work-life balance, and high demands at work have characterized 2023. Specifically, there has been a lot of discussion and conjecture about how AI and Gen AI can enhance software-led technology. As we look ahead to 2024, the youth of India must arm themselves with essential skills in order to prosper in a job market that is becoming more and more tech-centric and specialized, where artificial intelligence (AI) will pose a threat to the conventional methods of creating and utilizing technology. The youth need to instill the following essential abilities in order to prosper in these fast-paced times.

  1. Flexibility and Sturdiness:

More than ever, the capacity to adjust to change and overcome hardship is essential, particularly in light of the dynamically shifting geopolitical and economic landscape. In 2024, the key to success lies in embracing change as a chance for both personal and professional development, keeping an open mind when faced with major changes, and building resilience.

  1. Digital Skills and AI Technological Proficiency:

Proficiency in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) is critical as technology continues to transform businesses. To remain relevant in a world where technology dominates, young people must place a high priority on acquiring digital literacy, which includes data analytic abilities.

  1. Knowledge about Sustainability:

Business operations are becoming more and more influenced by social and environmental factors. Youth need to comprehend and incorporate sustainability principles into their skill sets in order to stay up to date with global trends. It will be essential to keep up with social and environmental issues and to take Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) into account. Furthermore, considering the state of the climate and the goal of reaching net zero, sustainability needs to be a business need that defines growth. The workforce’s skill sets must match these demands, as skills in green technology are becoming more and more relevant and in-demand.

  1. Ongoing Education and Skill Development:

Continuous learning is not merely an option, but rather a requirement in a labor market that is changing quickly. To remain relevant in the face of technological advancements, one must proactively invest in education and training, attend workshops, and have a constant learning mindset.

  1. Intelligence emotionale:

It is impossible to overestimate the significance of emotional intelligence in the digital age. The goal is to develop extraordinary interpersonal skills, self-awareness, and empathy. For teamwork and leadership to be successful in the digital age, it is imperative to understand the importance of efficient collaboration.

The youth of India must understand that these skills represent an investment in a future where technology and human-centric skills coexist, rather than merely a reaction to the challenges of the present. A proactive approach to learning, adapting, and seizing the limitless opportunities that come with living in a tech-driven era is necessary to navigate 2024. The youth can help the country become a worldwide economic powerhouse and further their own personal development by developing these abilities.
