AI Roadmap For Beginners: The Influence Of AI On Manipulation And Motion Planning

March 11, 2022
AI

For decades, automation has helped manufacturers improve production continuity, flexibility, competitiveness, productivity, and worker safety. In today’s world, manufacturers are increasingly turning to collaborative automation. When there is a lot of rapid change, flexible, intuitive, and collaborative automation is a good choice. Moreover, it reduces the time it takes to hire and train new employees and set up large plant configurations.

Manufacturers trust AI to make intellectual, ethical, and safety decisions in motion control processes. Sensors such as cameras, microphones, and wireless signals are used to collect and analyze data to assess processes and safety. Finally, the goal of AI in motion control applications is to use human resources with AI devices. In particular, to boost productivity and cut costs through process automation.

What is Manipulation and Motion?

Motion planning concerns determining a collision-free path for a moving entity through an obstacle-filled environment, from an initial placement to a goal placement. While motion planning is critical for manipulation, it also plays a critical role in a wide variety of other application areas, from crowd simulation to drug design.

Manipulation manifests itself in a variety of ways. Humans and robots can manipulate objects by carrying, holding, squeezing, pulling, pushing, throwing, and dropping them. Robots can do so with a single arm and hand or with both arms and hands. In addition, they can also benefit from their environment while performing their actions. The terms “prehensile” and “non-prehensile” manipulation are frequently used interchangeably. We look at both types of manipulation on a wide range of different types of objects and think about how the manipulated objects might change in shape.

  • Prehensile manipulation

The purpose of prehensile manipulation is to grasp or hold an object and thus constrain its motion. It’s possible to have two types of grasps: immobilizing grasps, which completely encircle an object, and caging grasps, which keep an object inside a box.

  • Non-prehensile manipulation

The objective of non-prehensile manipulation is to set an object in motion by applying a resultant force. There are a lot of high-level industrial tasks that need to be done well, but they can be done better if people think about how to do things like push, squeeze, and drop things.

The Future of AI in Motion Control

AI-enabled motion control technology streamlines processes, resulting in increased efficiency, improved machine performance, a shorter time to market, improved product quality, and cost savings by replacing hardware with software whenever possible. With the development of AI technology, it will soon become the norm in factories that want to stay on top.

Conclusion

Motion planning is the process of decomposing a movement task into “primary” components, such as individual joint movements. Such movement is frequently characterized by compliant motion, a process in which physical contact with an object is maintained. Through experience, robots can learn how to move efficiently in the presence of friction and gear slippage. Moreover, motion planning aims to determine a collision-free motion for a moving entity in an environment with obstacles. Motion planning is important for a lot of different things, from crowd simulation to drug design. It’s also important for manipulating things.
