Pfizer And Niper Work Together To Assist Indian Healthcare Startups

February 27, 2024
Pfizer

Through its INDovation program, Pfizer announced on Monday that it would be collaborating with the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education & Research (Niper), located in Ahmedabad. With funding of up to Rs 25 lakh and incubation facilities at NIPER Ahmedabad, this partnership seeks to assist and develop healthcare entrepreneurs.

With backing from the Department of Pharmaceuticals, the partnership highlights the dedication to homegrown healthcare solutions that are in line with the country’s healthcare priorities and promote positive societal effect. It is suggested for idea-driven startups to apply for the program via the official website.

Through this partnership with NIPER Ahmedabad, the Pfizer INDovation project, which has already assisted 34 companies in India, is now reaching a wider audience. With a cohort-based methodology, the program aims to choose six innovators from throughout the country for NIPER Ahmedabad’s one-year accelerator program.

Every firm will receive incubation support, which will cover things like help with pre-clinical testing, regulatory procedures, tech transfer support via the NIPER system, and real-world clinical fitting assessments. Up to Rs 25 lakh in funding support will also be given to each of the firms.

The partnership is searching for breakthroughs in fields like wearables, deep tech, Software as a Service (SaaS), point-of-care testing, artificial intelligence for predictive analysis, informatics, and track and trace solutions.

With the goal of assisting more entrepreneurs in the medical device industry, NIPER Ahmedabad is presently in the process of creating a Center of Excellence in Medical Devices. These entrepreneurs will have access to the NIPER Ahmedabad ecosystem thanks to the agreement with Pfizer, which will speed up their commercialization process.

Arunish Chawla, Secretary of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, commented on this, saying that it is the role of everyone involved in this ecosystem to support indigenous innovation in healthcare, rather than just seeing it as a priority. Our backing of Pfizer and NIPER-A’s partnership demonstrates how startups have the ability to introduce innovations that improve the nation’s healthcare system.

Prof. Shailendra Saraf, the Director of NIPER-Ahmedabad, commented on the subject, saying, “NIPER-A has long been at the forefront of pharmaceutical research and education.” Working together with a top pharmaceutical company like Pfizer can help these creative businesses and their concepts take off.

The Department of Pharmaceuticals was commended for their assistance by Meenakshi Nevatia, Managing Director of Pfizer, who stated, “We look forward to welcoming our latest cohort of startups to this program and being a part of their journey to success.”

Supporters of the idea include Chintan Vaishnav, Mission Director of the Atal Innovation Mission, who feels that new digital innovations brought to market by entrepreneurs will benefit India’s healthcare sector.
