Three Firms Are Utilizing Microsoft AI To Bridge The Tech Gap In India By Employing Voice LLM To Treat Chronic Ailments

February 10, 2024
Microsoft

The clearest indication of Microsoft’s active AI investment is its recent support of OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman. Now, the business demonstrated its commitment to investing in more AI services in India during the Microsoft AI Tour event held on February 8 and keynoted by CEO Satya Nadella. During an event showcasing, Microsoft showcased various AI platforms and services that it is funding in India. A showcase of India’s rapidly evolving technology sector was the focal point of the discussion. Leading the charge were Sarvam AI, Persistent, and the Open Healthcare Network (OHC), each of which has carved out a unique market and is utilizing AI to address pressing healthcare issues.

The Groundbreaking Initiatives of Sarvam AI
Pratyush Kumar and Vivek Raghavan founded Sarvam AI, which was the subject of the first demo. The AI startup has showcased its possible applications onboarded as part of Azure’s model-as-a-service offering by sharing an Azure OpenAI use case that might be used to design a voice LLM in Hindi. To make a more engaging and effective tool, it combines large and tiny language models. It functions similarly to expanding the availability of ChatGPT’s voice capability and adding support for regional Indian languages.

The two main applications are “Call a Teacher,” which is a cooperation with EkStep Foundation that allows conversational teaching through automated teacher bots, and “Jan Ki Baat,” which is a collaboration with People+AI that facilitates telephone-based qualitative surveys.

The Purpose of Persistent in Precision Healthcare
The following demo came from Persistent, a firm that uses GitHub Copilot and Azure OpenAI to revolutionize medication development and disease treatment, with a focus on the special healthcare needs of the Indian population. Persistent aims to employ technology to compile Indian datasets, with an emphasis on chronic illnesses like diabetes and cancer. This is because, historically, the majority of medical research is conducted on Western patients, which leaves patients in India with certain gaps in diagnosis and treatment. In essence, the goal of Persistent System is to open the door for specialized treatments and therapies.

The development of a multi-omics platform on Azure is a major accomplishment that will revolutionize access to genomic data, enable safe analytical pipelines, and provide new insights into the course of disease and drug development. The main goals of Persistent are to shorten the time it takes for scientific discoveries and close the translational gap in healthcare.

The 10BedICU program of Open Healthcare Network
The goal of the Open Healthcare Network’s (OHC) demonstration is to use modern technologies in environments with limited resources. The 10BedICU program, which leverages GitHub Copikit and Azure OpenAI to support critical care delivery in government hospitals in India’s smallest towns and villages, is the cornerstone of OHC’s efforts.

In essence, the business seeks to establish a secondary intensive care unit (ICU) at the Taluka level, where there are typically no intensive care units accessible.

In addition, OHC uses a chatbot to provide nurses with real-time therapy recommendations based on its own data.

Furthermore, OHC intends to make use of the CARE software platform to facilitate tele-ICU consults, linking physicians with patients in distant wards and providing thousands of people with life-saving care. For this reason, the business uses 100x zoom high resolution cameras to assist professionals in providing real-time remote monitoring.

The primary insight gained from the Microsoft showcase event was that, given India’s position at the nexus of technology and healthcare, firms such as Sarvam AI, Persistent, and OHC are poised to make a significant impact and tackle pressing healthcare issues. By means of such initiatives and cooperative alliances, these corporations are transforming the healthcare landscape of India, with the aim of advancing the nation towards a much-needed future marked by more equity and health.
