Nirmala Sitharaman, the finance minister, gave the budget for 2023 to the legislature today. According to the minister, as part of the government’s “Make AI for India” and “Make AI work for India” programmes, three artificial intelligence (AI) centres of excellence will be established throughout the nation as part of the budget.

The centres, which will be established in eminent educational institutions around the nation, will foster cooperation between those universities and the nation’s top businesses. These centres’ primary objective will be to conduct research and create useful AI applications for sustainable cities, health care, and agriculture.

“Third-rate educational institutions will host three centres of excellence for artificial intelligence. Leading business players will collaborate to perform multidisciplinary research, create cutting-edge software, and find scalable solutions to issues in the fields of agriculture, health, and sustainable cities, according to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The minister went on to say that this will “galvanise an effective AI ecosystem and develop quality human resources in the field.”

Relevance of these facilities Artificial intelligence has emerged as one of the most crucial abilities. The government’s push to establish these facilities will guarantee that students are knowledgeable about technology, guaranteeing that the nation is prepared for the future.

The decision has been praised by experts and business leaders who claim it will help India’s economy and prosperity.

Innovative digital technologies, such as AI and machine learning, are a significant step in fostering financial inclusion in India by making a variety of industries available to a larger segment of the public. According to Rajsri Rengan, Head of Banking and Payments, India and Philippines, FIS, this will improve service delivery and allow different societal groups to actively participate in financial ecosystems.

The financial ecosystem will also be benefited by these centres, in Rengan’s opinion, as more individuals will have access to services and financial inclusion thanks to improved AI and machine learning applications.

The government is still putting a lot of effort into using technology to achieve Minimum Government and Maximum Governance. According to Gunjan Prabhakaran, partner and leader, Indirect Tax, BDO India, the announcement to establish three centres of excellence for artificial intelligence to enable “Make AI for India” and “Make AI work for India” will further aid India in its growth trajectory with skillful use of technology.

AI and machine learning have long been the focus of businesses like Google and Microsoft. AI and machine learning have been used by Google’s India Research Lab to enhance healthcare, public health, wildlife conservation, disease prevention, and other areas.

The government has also declared that it will establish 100 labs in engineering colleges to create apps using 5G services, in addition to establishing centres of excellence for AI.
